Pulpy Goodness!

We here at Ominous Press feel that contacting our backers is a privilege, one we never want to take for granted. But once in a while we reach out to let you know about a great Kickstarter campaign that might be of interest.

Thrilling Adventure Yarns 2021 is a pulp-style prose anthology edited by Robert Greenberger, who wrote the Dreadstar Guidebook that Ominous will soon be publishing. The book features an array of pulp-style short stories spanning genres including fantasy, science fiction, sword and sorcery, detective, Western and more, from an all-star lineup of writers.

With only a few days remaining, the initial funding goal has been met, and now the campaign is hitting stretch goals. A recent stretch goal unlocked a short story by our own editor-in-chief at Ominous, Ron Marz. An upcoming stretch goal unlocks artwork by friends of Ominous including Peter Krause, Jerry Ordway, Tom Mandrake, and Karl Kesel.

We’d love for you to have a look at the campaign here:

The final countdown

Beasts!

30 hours left as these words are being typed and we have made significant progress towards our goal of bringing Beasts Of The Black Hand: The Viking League out of the shadows and into the light!

We started the week at 54% of our funding goal, determined but a tiny bit unsure of how these last few days would go and, 48 hours later, we're juuuuuuuuuuust over 90% funded thanks to all of you that have joined the campaign or increased your pledges. In particular, let's give Les Allen and Brian Mulvey a special round of applause for their incredible support of this project. Take a bow, guys, and consider yourself honorary members of the Black Hand!

As we close in on our final day, in order to keep the madness marching forward we're introducing several more limited variant covers to the campaign, from Eric Powell, Meghan Hetrick, Marc Laming, Paul Harding and Matthew Dow Smith, as well as one convenient bundle to bring them all home and in the darkness bind them. Take a look...

Remember, liking and sharing the project on your social media is the best way to help us hit our goal. We can see the finish line yonder, sitting on the horizon. With just a little more help from all of you, we're gonna get there!

Stay safe. Wash your hands.

Beasts!

We made some AMAZING progress towards our funding goal yesterday! It was our best day of the campaign since the first week and if we can keep up this momentum, there's no doubt we're going to crush it over the last leg of this marathon! Thanks to all of you that believe in this project and raised your pledge or liked/shared it on social media. You're making a big difference over these last 51 hours.

That's right. There are 51 hours left in this campaign! So, for those of you that are good at math, that breaks down to two full days plus three hours to march the rest of the way to our goal. Keep fighting the good fight with us; you're joining a small army of our comic book-industry friends in sharing the project and helping to get the word out.

One easy way to help us get a little closer to funding is to adjust your pledge and add some more beastly magic to your rewards package. A quick (and economical) way to do that is by claiming one of our special, variant cover editions that were created exclusively for this campaign.

With cover art by industry legends like Mike McKone, Mark Nelson, Rachel Stott and Tom Mandrake, (not to mention the blank sketch cover edition), the variant covers are extremely rare and not currently available outside of this campaign. There are limited amounts left of each. If you're inclined to help us reach our goal, just adjust your pledge accordingly and leave a comment detailing which sketch cover you'd like. We'll add it to your account and BOOM, it's a win/win for all of us!

The final 48 hours approached. We're excited; hope you guys are too! Let's all band together and get this project over the finish line!

Beasts volume 2: A spotlight on Henry Johnson
over 5 years ago – Wed, Aug 12, 2020 at 05:43:59 AM

One of storytelling aspects that makes Beasts Of The Black Hand unique is its blend of real world historical figures and dieselpunk horror fiction. One of the integral characters in the Beasts of the Black Hand saga is Henry Johnson, a real-life, American World War I hero.

Henry’s bravery in the Argonne Forest earned him the French Croix de Guerre, and then posthumously, the Medal of Freedom. He was part of the 369th Infantry Regiment from New York, an all-black brigade known as the Harlem Hellfighters.

Coincidentally, Henry lived a portion of his life in the Albany, NY area that both Paul Harding and Ron Marz call home, working as a redcap at Albany Union Station. In fact, there’s a Henry Johnson Boulevard in Albany.

Our version of Henry is fictional, but his real-life story is just as fascinating, and sadly, tinged with tragedy due to the racism he faced. Beasts of the Black Hand presents Henry in a heroic role befitting the life he lived.

Is Henry wearing the armor of the Teutonic Knight?

Beasts Of The Black Hand (vol 2): The Viking League is currently funding on Kickstarter, with three days remaining in the campaign. Be a part of history-- and historical fiction, by backing the  campaign  and sharing your support on social media. These final few days are critical to the future of the Beasts saga.

Thanks for your help in getting this project off the ground!
